Hi, everyone
I’m new here. I appreciate the community’s support of this fantastic site. I’ve picked up a lot of useful information that’s hard to come by elsewhere. I’d also like to share some new info about adding points for the highly skilled visa.
In brief, you can complete a master’s degree from specific Japanese universities called 専門職大学院 while working. From what I know, KIC( 神戸情報大学院大学 ) and AIIT( 東京都立産業技術大学院大学 ) are good options. KIC offers a fully online option. And AIIT offers weekend classes in Tokyo. Their courses are about getting the job-ready skills, rather than researching. So I think it is highly possible to complete a degree using free time.
The yearly fees and tuition without reduction are around 1,800,000 yen for KIC, or 520,800 yen for AIIT.
As for the points, a master’s degree is for 20 points, and since it is local university, you can get another 10 points. So if you already have a bachelor’s degree, you could add 20 points.
However, this is just my personal opinion, and I haven’t looked into the details carefully. Please let me know if I’m wrong.
I took a glance at this. KIC seems to offer a program in English too. I don’t see a problem with doing this, apart from the cost and time involved. I can’t imagine it would be easy to work full time and do a masters, though I know people who have done it.
Before setting out down this route, I’d want to confirm with immigration that I’m actually going to get the points though. You should theoretically be able to call their support line to ask (though it can be hard to get through).
I agree, especially the last sentence
